A visit to Angkor Wat 2

Angkor

What could we say that hasn’t been said before (and far more eloquently)?

What photographs could we take that aren’t already being sold as postcards?

Angkor

Angkor

We spent three days walking, climbing and sweating around the ancient ruins of Angkor.

Angkor

Angkor

We peered through windows.

Angkor

We clambered through doorways.

Angkor

Angkor

We climbed the many, many steps.

Angkor

We stumbled over tree roots.

Angkor

We burnt our noses to a crisp.

Angkor

We learnt the mythical stories engraved on walls and doors.

Angkor

Angkor

We imagined the hallways covered with bronze, shining in the sunlight.

Angkor

We had fun!

    Hey there Ruth and Matt,

Was very thankful to come across this post about one of my truly favorite places in the world. I can certainly relate about the sweating and the long days at the temple but it was worth it! Right? You perfectly summed it up at the end there with the “We had fun!” because after all the heat and humidity and crowds, traveling to Angkor and seeing this magnificent complex is more entertainment than work. I’m glad that I found this post that reminded me of an awesome time and hope that I can get back there. Do you have any future plans of returning?

I was a bit apprehensive before our visit because I had heard so many great things that I was worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype but I didn’t have feared… You’re right, it was many things but most of all fun and we had a fantastic time!

We’ll definitely return to Cambodia so explore more of the country but I’m not sure about returning to Angkor Wat, I’d like to but there are always so many things to fit in! I would love to return with our own transport so that we could really explore our favourite temples and the areas we missed at our own pace.
