Results and Resolutions 1

Looking back at my blog post from last new year I realised that this is the first year that I have got anywhere near keeping my resolutions. Granted I haven’t quite made it. And I’ve never really made real resolutions other than a vague notion that I should lose weight, get fit and sort my life out!

So lets have a quick look at how we did:

  • Eat vegan for January. I did it! I got very bored of stir fried veg and missed eggs on toast but I did it!

  • Read 12 books each. We both read ten books so we didn’t quite make the 12 but it’s a lot more than I read in 2014 and I really enjoyed making time to read.

  • Visit one new establishment in Nakhon Sawan each month. This was easy. Apart from the months when we weren’t in town, we actually went to so many new places that we stopped counting. Lucky for us, loads of great places have opened in the past year and some have become firm favourites.

  • Learn to speak Thai! This was never something that we could objectively achieve in one year. Our Thai (and importantly our confidence to speak it at every opportunity) still has a lot of room for improvement. However, it is definitely far better than it was in January and since May we have taken the proactive step of having weekly Thai lessons. It’s an ongoing resolution but we’re making big steps!

The resolutions we made last year inspired and encouraged us to do things that we wouldn’t have otherwise. We think that it is important that resolutions are measurable and realistic

So, here are our pledges for 2016:

  • Read 12 books. We’re doing this one again and hopefully we’ll complete it this time.

  • Watch 12 new films. New means films that we have not seen before. Twelve films and books may not seem many but we so often don’t make time for doing these things and I can only think of two new films I’ve watched in the past year!

  • Learn a new Thai word each day. We receive an email each day with a ‘word of the day’ so our aim is to learn and use these. We have each bought a small notebook to write them down with any annotations that may help us to remember them and learn how they’re used.

  • Look after things. Ok so this is about as vague as you get but I have split it up into 3 specific things that I think we have neglected.

*Our moped – the poor thing has been to bike hospital recently so our resolution is to get it serviced regularly and take it to the garage if it feels or sounds strange at all.

*Our laptops – A new battery is on it’s way for our MacBook Pro and we are being very careful about charging them and not leaving them on. We are going to buy anti-virus software and skins to keep them safe inside and out and we’ve also got some cleaner to keep them looking spick’n’sexy.

*Our teeth – I have bought new floss, tooth brush and mouthwash. I am also going to book an appointment with the dentist and let them loose on my gnashers!

So that’s it for 2016. I hope that these resolutions will help us to have a great year, whether or not we manage to complete them all.

Bring it on!
