Here on Koh Kood 2

Remember when I said that Koh Mak was the most beautiful Thai island? Well step aside, because we just discovered Koh Kood (or Ko Kut).

Paradise in Thailand!

I was in two minds as to whether we should blog about Koh Kood because although I want to share this wonderful place, it is perfectly quiet and tranquil and doesn’t need any people taking up MY empty beach thank you very much! It is beautiful, it is unique; it is very, very close to being perfect (for our tastes).

BUT…

If you want to party, don’t come here.

If you want lots of action and adventure, don’t come here.

If you’re a solo traveller who wants to meet people, don’t come here.

It’s not that parties, adventure and friendly folks can’t be found on Koh Kood if you look hard enough it’s just that amongst Thailand’s many other islands you’re going to find far better options for all of those things.

However, if you simply want to spend your time relaxing in paradise, this is the place to come.

Thailand's best kept secret....

Koh Kood

There are many upmarket resorts on the west side of the island. The reason for that becomes clearest at sundown. All the western beaches on Koh Kood feature stunning sunsets. When the sky is clear, it really is something to behold. Stick around for an hour or two and the stars can be just as dazzling.

But for us mere teachers there are good cheap digs to be  found amongst the mangroves that spread inland along much of the island.  And in our opinion, the best way to experience this little paradise is to hire a moped and explore at your own pace!

We spent our few days there riding around and ferreting down the dirt tracks that led to various beaches. Each one features crystal clear water, perfect for swimming. The beaches come in all shapes and sizes, though some are much quieter than others – get out and explore them all!

We also grabbed a canoe from our guesthouse and paddled through the mangroves to a small waterfall with a deep pool at the bottom which was great for jumping and swimming.

Every time we jumped on the bike and went searching we found something else exciting and enjoyable: isolated river hotels, exclusive beaches (just walk in nobody will stop you) and some fantastic restaurants.

The highlight of each day though was the sunset. Grab an ice cream and a cool beer and find a spot on the sand, a pier or at the bar and just let your breath be taken away

I asked and you delivered, huh? Koh Kood looks pretty awesome, Ruth! It seems way more chill than Koh Chang and probably more of an ideal place for my wife and myself now. This must be a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and other places in Thailand. Though looking around, I noticed Nakhon Sawan seems a pretty nice place and reminiscent of my old coastal outpost in Korea. Either way, loved the photos of this place and looking forward to more!

It’s certainly very chill! I liked Koh Chang but for us Koh Kood is just perfect and I would definitely recommend it to you and your wife.
Nakhon Sawan is far away from the hustle and bustle and we love living here – I need to write a post on the big Chinese New Year celebrations here!
