5 things we loved about Laos

5 Things we loved about Laos!

We spent 2 weeks travelling through Laos from Huay Xai to Pakse. We had our ups and downs and there’s plenty more for us to see but we thought we’d share our favourite things about this beautiful country.

…..*drumroll*….. in no particular order:

1. The people

Perhaps it’s a cliche but local people can really make or break a travel destination. We were really taken with the Laotians we met; from novice monks to sandwich sellers and, of course the odd baby!

2. The bread

A decent loaf is hard to come by in Thailand so the endless baguettes were very welcome – we ate a lot of sandwiches!

3. The skirts

Most Lao women wear the traditional wrap skirts and they are even part of government and school uniforms. I liked them so much I even bought one :)

Best holiday purchase: my Laotian skirt!

4. Noodle soup

It was often all we could find so it was a good job we liked it so much. Served with chilli, lime and plenty of leafage: ‘a noodle soup a day keeps the doctor away’!

5. Songkran

I’m sure we will celebrate Songkran many more times in the years to come but our first encounter with this festival will always be very special to us. Read more about our Songkran experience here.
